Consumer goods major Marico has entered into definitive agreements to acquire a 60 percent stake in plant-based nutrition brand Cosmix for INR 225.67 crore.

The transaction values Cosmix at approximately INR 375 crore and will be executed through a secondary buyout. Marico said the acquisition is expected to be completed within 30 days, subject to customary closing conditions.

As part of the agreement, the company has retained the right to acquire the remaining stake in Cosmix Wellness after the completion of fiscal year 2029, provided certain performance milestones are met.

Founded in 2019 by Vibha Harish and Soorya Jagadish, Cosmix focuses on plant-based proteins and superfood blends. The brand has scaled rapidly in recent years, reporting an annualised revenue run rate of about INR 100 crore based on performance between August 2025 and January 2026. For the full financial year 2024–25, the company recorded a turnover of INR 50.93 crore.

Cosmix has remained fully bootstrapped since inception, with no external investors on its cap table. A funding deal discussed following the company's appearance on Shark Tank did not materialise. Under the current transaction, the founders are expected to continue leading the business. The agreement has been described as open-ended with respect to their continued association with the brand.

The company primarily sells through its D2C channels and offers products such as plant-based protein powders, gut health supplements, and wellness solutions aimed at hair and skin concerns. Plant-protein powders contribute the majority of Cosmix's revenues, following strong consumer demand and product-market fit in this category.

Marico's CEO Saugata Gupta has previously stated that the company's acquisition philosophy prioritises founders who focus on building long-term businesses, rather than short-term exits, with an emphasis on sustained founder involvement after acquisitions.

While Marico already has a presence in the plant-based nutrition segment through its brand Plix, Cosmix co-founder Vibha Harish said there is limited overlap, adding that multiple strong brands can help grow the overall category.

The Cosmix acquisition aligns with Marico's broader strategy to strengthen its digital-first portfolio, which includes brands such as Plix, True Elements, Beardo, and Just Herbs.

Last month, Marico acquired PVR-owned popcorn brand 4700BC in a deal valued at INR 226 crore. The company has said it aims for its food and premium personal care businesses to contribute at least 25 percent of its India revenues by 2028, as it works towards doubling its overall revenue to INR 20,000 crore by 2030.
