Yohan and Michelle Poonawalla of the Poonawalla Group have invested in Regeno, a Coimbatore-based material science startup focused on fully biodegradable packaging solutions.
The investment marks the group's deeper entry into sustainability and green technology, as industries worldwide look for alternatives to single-use plastics.
Regeno (Regeno Ventures Pvt Ltd) was founded in 2017 by entrepreneur Cibhi Selven. The startup manufactures plastic-free packaging products made from vegetable starch, primarily tapioca, along with natural extracts. Its product portfolio includes biodegradable carry bags, shopping bags, garbage bags, and garment bags aimed at replacing conventional plastic packaging.
The brand's materials are designed to be 100 percent biodegradable, compostable, and water-soluble, leaving no toxic residue. Regeno's solutions are currently positioned for use across sectors such as e-commerce, retail, FMCG, logistics, transportation, and food-safe packaging, at a time when stricter plastic regulations are being enforced in many regions.
Yohan Poonawalla, Chairman of the Poonawalla Group, said, "Regeno represents a strategic shift in how industries will operate in the coming decade. The future of packaging lies in materials that are high-performance, scalable, and environmentally neutral."
Michelle Poonawalla, Director at the Poonawalla Group, said, "Sustainability is no longer optional; it is essential. Regeno's mission aligns closely with our vision of supporting ventures that create measurable impact on society and the environment."
The biodegradable packaging sector is projected to grow significantly over the next decade, with market estimates reaching USD 31.1 billion by 2033, driven by rising environmental concerns and regulatory pressure.
Regeno's competitors include EnviGreen, Ecoware, BioD, Ecolastic, Truegreen Packaging, and Chuk, operating across biodegradable, compostable packaging solutions.
