So, you've built a company or new product that's ready to launch, and you want to get some press coverage. Before you reach out to any news outlets, though, Entrepreneur Network partner Emily Richett explains why you need to make sure you can answer these three questions:

  1. Who is your audience?
  2. What is your compelling call to action?
  3. What is your plan to turn press into profit?

Don't just seek a general news source and hope revenue will pour in. Study where your likeliest customers consume their news, then focus on those sources to target your audience. Next, make sure you have something specific you want people to do when they see your press appearance. Do you want them to go to a landing page? To buy something? What is the simplest way to get them where you want them to go?

A business, at the end of the day, doesn't need to add Twitter followers -- it has to earn money. Gear your press appearance toward this fact, and you'll get the most out of the media.
