As Paytm boss Vijay Shekhar Sharma flies out of Delhi to beat the pollution scare, wish you could also find some respite from breathing toxic air. As a precautionary measure, however, you can refer to these five essential Android apps to track the quality of air around you.

1. Happy Lungs

The app was launched last year; during the time Aam Aadmi Party introduced its anti-pollution initiative "odd-and-even formula' to tackle pollution menace. With a simple user interface, the app can be handled by children and also the not so-tech-savvy person in the family. It helps you to plan your day by providing realtime data of pollutants, air quality and carbor footprint. Install: Around 500 Review: Very cool app. Essential before going out in the pollution. 2. Airveda

Airveda shows data from different air quality stations across the country and help you track air quality in your city. It offers a portable, affordable, and accurate air quality monitor measuring PM2.5 and PM10 designed and manufactured in India. Install: 5,000 to 10,000 Review: Awesome. 3. Air Quality India

The application provides you with real-time air quality data from all across India, which is measured as per the standard norms by Central Pollution Control Board of India (CPCB). It also gives you suggestions based on pollution level in your area. Is it a good time to go for morning exercise? Should you take your pet for a walk? 4. Air Mentor (Free)

It monitors air quality inside the house and can detect gas pollution and dust pollution suggested by WHO indoor air quality report. The app detects particles including Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC), CO2, particle matters, and also temperature and relative humidity. Install: 1,000 to 5,000 Review: Great. The app not only informs you in real time about the pollution level of your city, but also predicts how it will evolve in the next few hours. Now, you can actually schedule your day according to its predictions. As of now, the app provides information in over 200 cities worldwide (New- York, London, Paris, Shanghai, Beijing, New- Delhi, Tokyo, etc). Install: 50,000 to 1,00,000 Review: Great app. But if I could make one complaint, I am trying to use the widget for quick reference but it seems to not automatically update. Nicole Hiat
