When Atlanta-area drivers or pedestrians suffer a personal injury in a collision that was no fault of their own, the injury can have a long and costly impact on their lives, and they may be entitled to compensation that can help them mitigate some of that impact. Yet dealing with insurers can be complex, and few people know the ins and outs of that process. That’s where David Van Sant comes in.

An attorney at Van Sant Law, LLC, based in Cumming, Ga., Van Sant says he practices an approach to personal injury law that is informed by both his deep connections to the local community and past years of expertise on the other side of the fence, when he worked to represent insurers.

Experience on both sides of an injury claim

Van Sant brings an unusual knowledge base and skill set with him to personal injury law. Before his current practice, he previously served as a defense counsel for a large insurance firm. That history has helped him and his team anticipate how insurance companies may assess liability and approach damages and demands for a settlement. He understands the tactics that insurers sometimes use against those who have suffered an injury during an accident, and he has personal experience with the process for recovering compensation for an injury.

It was partly those experiences that motivated Van Sant to start his own practice, Van Sant Law, to offer a better defense for those who have suffered in an accident that wasn’t their fault.

A family business serving local clients

David Van Sant has said that his personal compass is pointed toward his community, and it is concern for local Georgians that has guided the decisions he has made in growing Van Sant Law. The firm’s attorneys live in the communities that they serve, and the firm’s involvement with those communities includes more than just legal counsel and representation; Van Sant and his team also sponsor many local school sports teams.

“For our youth, participation in these programs engages them with their community,” Van Sant shares, “as well as building strong bodies and strong minds…not to mention keeping them busy.”

Van Sant also serves as the official personal injury attorney of Georgia State Athletics. His ties to Georgia State University are personal ones; he received his JD from the university in 2003, and today, his oldest daughter is pursuing her own law degree there. His son also plans to pursue his law degree at Georgia State in the future.

Van Sant Law is a family business. Van Sant’s sister is one of his firms’ attorneys, and his parents are part of the firm as well. Both of Van Sant’s children grew up in the Atlanta area and see a future at Van Sant Law, with this family team leading a local firm for local clients, devoted to working hard to protect the people they see as their neighbors. Van Sant Law also offers discounts to EMTs, veterans, and first responders in gratitude for their service to Georgia communities.

Looking ahead

Looking to the future, Van Sant sees Van Sant Law continuing to serve the Georgia community, its families, and his alma mater now and in the next generation. Van Sant and his firm have received accolades for their work to date. Van Sant holds a 10.0 Justia Lawyer Rating and has been selected to the Georgia Super Lawyers list for 2026. (This honor continues a series of selections dating from 2014.) Van Sant Law was also named a Best Personal Injury Law firm in the My Cumming Best of 2025 awards.

Van Sant’s vision is that Van Sant Law will continue to use his deep knowledge of the insurance industry to help guide survivors of car collisions and other accidents that caused personal injury to make their way through a sometimes perplexing and at times hostile system so that they can receive the compensation they are entitled to and move forward with their lives.
