While 3-D printing isn’t new, it seemed ever present in 2014. The technology churned out customized Oreo cookies at this year’s SXSW and the printers popped up all over -- including certain UPS and Staples locations. But while manufacturing guns or even shoes from a home printer grabbed the headlines, the technology’s ability to solve bigger problems sometimes went overlooked.
