If the entrepreneurial journey is one ridden with hardships, having a hero to emulate can serve as a vital source of hope.

To this end, we asked a handful of emerging entrepreneurs at the Empact Showcase Legacy Event in New York -- a celebration of young entrepreneurs from across the country -- to talk about the business leaders that they admired most.

While popular names like Richard Branson, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates frequently sprung to mind, others called out slightly more obscure choices, including the Canadian social entrepreneur Jeff Skoll, as well as Randy Pausch -- famed for delivering inspirational life lectures in the face of a terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
