Kathleen Henson is the founder and CEO of Chicago-based public relations and marketing firm Henson Consulting. She left the big agency world 16 years ago to start the company out of her basement -- with no funding or back-up plan.

As for work-life balance, the mother of five strives for harmony between the two spheres, and she says she is proud to have close relationships with each of her sons and daughters.
