You've likely heard the saying a million times: Don't judge a book by its cover. But if you ask Distinee Gayle, she'll admit that many of us are unavoidably guilty of it—particularly when it comes to business. A logo, for instance, is often the first impression a customer has of a business. Terrific or terrible, logos can make a lasting first impression.

"The elements of a great logo should amplify the essence of the brand it represents and how you want customers to feel," Gayle says. "It's your chance to show who your company is at a glance, spark curiosity, and invite people in to learn more."

Gayle is founder of Washington D.C.-based Fully Bloomed, a business she started in 2019 that creates immersive self-care experiences for individuals and corporate groups. Like many other businesses, Gayle turned to print and design partner VistaPrint to help design a logo that will make positive and lasting impressions.

With Logomaker by VistaPrint, small-business owners can receive design options almost instantly, using this free AI-generated tool. From there, users can customize those design options further (such as colors, fonts, etc.) and download files for free. The ability to quickly and creatively bring logos to life across marketing materials can be a massive differentiator for time-strapped entrepreneurs.

While a strong and recognizable logo can help any brand look good, it's what a business does with that logo that makes them stand out. Here are three small businesses that worked with VistaPrint to create logos and other marketing materials that resonate with customers and keep them coming back.

Outfitting and welcoming the team

From business cards and t-shirts to event signage, menus and more, Bernard and Jassmire Agyakwa love their logo so much they've put it on everything. The Agyakwas founded Bomu in 2022. Located in Frederick, Md., Bomu is a creative studio that offers branding and content creation as well as event planning, floral design, and home decor services.

Exploring VistaPrint's many logo design offerings, the Agyakwas decided to hold a design contest. They started with a brief that outlined their color, typography, and additional stylistic preferences. From there, more than 200 graphic designers submitted their work. Over three rounds of judging, the Agyakwas selected a winner.

"Our logo is elegant, simple, and timeless," Bernard Agyakwa says. "It's an essential part of our branding across weddings, events, and our products."

It's also a key part of their team's apparel—whether featured on black event t-shirts with Bomu's white logo or on more elegant, embroidered polos for formal events. One of their favorite uses for their logo is within their new-hire onboarding kits. They use VistaPrint's custom mailer boxes featuring their team tagline—everything we do is purposed to bring things and people together— on the inside lip and the Bomu logo prominently displayed on the cover.

Inside, team members receive branded shirts, custom Bomu stickers, and keychains—all designed and printed to create a sense of belonging from day one. "These boxes allow us to fully immerse new team members in the Bomu experience, making their welcome both intentional and memorable," Jassmire Agyakwa says.

One logo, accomplishing multiple goals at once

From fiber art to secondhand clothing, Kelly Fowble has created an aesthetic at her Simi Valley, Calif.-based business, The Thrifty Handmade, that expresses her love for motherhood in a very neutral and minimal way. (She started the business in 2021 when she was 39 weeks pregnant!) So, when she set out to design her logo with VistaPrint, she wanted the design to reflect that. And it does.

Like Bomu, The Thrifty Handmade leveraged the collective design genius accessible under the VistaPrint umbrella. The logo she selected now resides on everything from matte finish business cards, brochures, branded hemp shopping totes, and shipping materials like customizable roll labels, hang tags, mailer boxes, and poly mailers.

One of the most creative ways she has used her new logo is in a hybrid execution: A price tag that doubles as a business card. Each tag is attached to a clothing item and is visible to shoppers at in-person events.

"I created the tag using VistaPrint's custom hang tags and chose a rounded square design with a premium matte finish," she explains. The tags also include a QR code that directs customers to The Thrifty Handmade's Instagram account.

"VistaPrint has made it easy to refresh my brand with professional design help and the perfect selection of products," Fowble says. "I've been able to effectively create products that help my brand stand out with free templates and customizable options."

Giving an event its own identity

At Fully Bloomed, Distinee Gayle had an idea for her flagship event, Fully Bloomed Fest, a self-care festival in the Washington, DC area that features a full day of curated experiences from interactive workshops and panel discussions to wellness activations, journaling, and more. While maintaining its association with the main business, Gayle wanted to give the event its own brand and identity.

Fully Bloomed created a beautiful new logo for its Fully Bloomed Fest which was featured on various event items, including pizza boxes.

She worked with VistaPrint to design a logo specifically for Fully Bloomed Fest, and to create branded event essentials like brochures, totes, pizza boxes, affirmation napkins, and acrylic signage.

"Creating a custom logo for the festival just made sense for us," Gayle says. "It allowed Fully Bloomed Fest to stand on its own while still staying connected to the Fully Bloomed brand."

The extra effort paid off. "Attendees loved how every detail felt intentional and cohesive," Gayle says. "To me, brand recognition is about how it resonates with people and how it makes them feel part of something special. The logo really helped connect our community to the experience, and it's been amazing to see that recognition continue to grow."
