In this video, Experiment27's Alex Berman pulls together three great business lessons from director, businessman, comedian and podcaster Kevin Smith.

If you don't like profanity, this may not be the video for you, Berman warns.

Starting from nothing and with no connections to Hollywood, Smith created a name for himself and built his own empire of comedic masterpieces, from Clerks to Dogma. But he didn't get there overnight.

Funding his own movies and even putting himself in debt, Smith launched his career as a director and filmmaker. He recommends finding ways to finance your ventures yourself so you can do things the way you want.

He also encourages creating your own buzz rather than spending thousands of dollars on ads, and he shares some of the hilarious ways in which he has generated some cheap -- essentially free -- press, too.

Click play to find out how this creative genius built his Hollywood career from the ground up.
