As school starts across the U.S., many freshmen are entering college as "undeclared," feeling out different subjects before deciding what to major in. While future earning potential is no match for personal fulfillment, those on the fence might want to take a look at data compiled by Open Colleges, an online career development community.

According to their findings, average starting salaries for business majors increased by 7.1 percent from $50,633 in 2012 to $54,234 in 2013. The data also shows that engineering fields dominate the ranks of the highest-paid careers. Sadly though, many of the Class of 2010's graduates ended up finding work in low-wage, non-degree fields such as food service and retail sales.
