Pinterest has unveiled a new feature that allows business owners to add more detail to the content they pin to the social-media site. Called "Place Pins," the feature lets users link the images on their boards to a map.

Place Pins, which can also include additional details like an address and phone number, can be especially useful to businesses that are pegged to travel and tourism, for instance, to help visitors find discover unique things to do in your area.

The idea is that linking great images on Pinterest to a map for customers can be a way to foster engagement and to help them create their own unique and positive experience. Pins that already exist can be updated with location-based information which will move with your pin even when its pinned by another person or to another board.

One idea could be to build a local board featuring the best food carts -- or any other type of activity or destination -- within a one-mile radius of your business. Startups like Airbnb and Thrillest and companies like the Travel Channel and Condé Nast are among the beta users that have already been using Place Pins.

The new feature also works on Pinterest's Android and iOS apps, making it easy for customers to carry your place-based boards with them anywhere.
