T-Mobile will slash fees for data and texting in more than 100 countries beginning October 31, making it less expensive for business travelers to keep in touch at home when traveling or working abroad.

The wireless carrier announced plans on Wednesday to eliminate what are commonly known as roaming rates and begin offering international travelers a flat rate for calls.

"The cost of staying connected across borders is completely crazy," John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US, said in a written statement. "Today's phones are designed to work around the world, but we're forced to pay insanely inflated international connectivity fees to actually use them. You can't leave the country without coming home to bill shock. So we're making the world your network -- at no extra cost."

T-Mobile individual and business customers enrolled in the company's Simple Choice plan will receive unlimited data and texting in more than 100 Simple Global countries. Customers traveling abroad will pay a global flat rate of 20 cents per minute for voice calls.

The new global plan covers 115 countries and destinations, including Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, France, Thailand, South Korea, Israel, Egypt and South Africa.
