Wireless Zone's history goes back to 1988, when Russ Weldon started The Car Phone Store in Wethersfield, Connecticut. Franchising began just a year later. By 1999, the stores' offerings had expanded beyond cell phones to include GPS navigation, wireless accessories, wireless data devices and pre-paid cellular services, and the company's name was changed to Wireless Zone.
