Management consultancy Bain & Company takes the cake, moving up from second place last year. It's not the first time the firm has occupied the top spot. In fact, it has shifted between first, second, third and fourth places for the past nine years.

On top of providing its employees with basic benefits packages, the company also offers tuition assistance, diversity and job training programs, sabbaticals, paid time off to volunteer and options for working from home. Excellent salaries (even for interns!), a warm and inviting work culture and a CEO ranked best in the world (Bob Bechek) also make Bain & Company the most desirable place to work.

Airbnb, which debuted as number one on the 2016 list, fell to number 35 this year. While a mire of government regulations and lawsuits may have drawn negative attention to the company this year, employees primarily complained about an "increasing amount of bureaucracy and decreasing amount of transparency from senior leaders in the company," Glassdoor Community Expert Scott Dobroski told TechCrunch.

The list also includes 14 newcomers, including Clorox, Lululemon and Elon Musk's SpaceX. Employees of Clorox, which took 12th place, highlighted stellar work-life balance, flexible daily schedules and remote work options. It's no surprise that an employee at SpaceX (ranked 40th) called the company "exciting" and "fast paced."

Bain & Company, Google (#4) and Apple (#36) are the only three companies that have made the list for all nine years. Beyond gourmet lunches and massage rooms, employees of these well-rated companies attribute a community of smart colleagues, a strong mission, growth opportunities and great benefits to the excellence of their employers.
