Nab Your Niche
A specialty is essential to your success in the booming home-improvement market.

Finding a niche is important in any industry, but it'sespecially so in the $169 billion home-remodeling market. Accordingto the NationalAssociation of Home Builders (NAHB), 1.35 million newsingle-family homes are projected to be built in the United Statesin 2003. "Remodeling is at record proportions," says theNAHB's Donna Reichle.
To capitalize on all that building and remodeling, Brian Workmanand Paul Rodgers, both in their late 30s, found their niche bylaunching BlindCorners & Curves LLC, which specializes in making customwindow coverings for oddly shaped windows. "Being in a nicheis everything," says Workman. "Find something that youspecialize in that sets you apart." Founded in 1999, theirDenver business now has sales exceeding $1 million.
